Do you ever wonder what’s involved in and how someone gets sponsored for a trip? What do they get and just what do they have to do for the company that is sponsoring them? Each company will have their own specifics for sponsorship and it will likely depend on many things, but to try to get an idea of what it’s all about we asked Michnus and Elsebie Olivier from PikiPiki Overland to sit down and have a chat about sponsorship.

Michnus and Elesbie Oliver have been travelling on their DR650’s for a decade and they have also had a successful adventure product company called All Terrain Gear. And like many companies they got into sponsoring some travellers, and learned some valuable lessons. They’ve also started a new company and they are once again vetting sponsor requests for the new brand. So whether you are thinking about applying for a sponsorship or you’re just curious about it, this conversation should give you a clearer understanding about why someone would want to do it or choose not to.
